CEC SmartBrief article:Sign Language from Parent Volunteers

Parent who is deaf helps students learn to sign
Teachers in a Middletown, Md., elementary school say their students are benefiting from lessons in sign language provided by a volunteer parent who is deaf. "Teachers quickly began to see how it could be incorporated into the classroom in valuable ways," said Principal Susan Kreiger. "It helps with number and letter recognition and retention, and special signs are used for behavior modification, such as when to get students to quiet down." Frederick News-Post (Md.), The (4/15)
