Old LSVI Campus Shot 2

This photo is of the alley on the east side of the younger boys' dormitory on the old LSVI (Louisiana School for the Visually Impaired) campus. The drive led to Government Street. Just beyond the little boys dorm was Philips Hall for the teenage boys.

Old LSVI Campus Shot

This photo is from the old Louisiana School for the Visually Impaired campus which is being renovated and turned into the Youth and Family Services. This view is from the south end of the campus behind what was the younger boys' dormitories. The bottom floor was called B1 and housed the younger elementary school age boys while the top floor was called B2
and housed upper elementary to middle school age boys. Straight ahead is where there were classrooms for non-graded special education classes and he library was upstairs. Part of the view to the library building used to be blocked by a T-building which housed 1st and 2nd grade and oart of the assessment center.

LSVI Photos from the old campus

This photo is of the front wall  where the words "Louisiana School for the Visually Impaired" used to be posted. Now it reads "Family and Youth Service Center". I have been taking these photos to share with grads and former coworkers on our Facebook group.

LSVI a Shot From the Old Campus

This is a shot of one side of the old Louisiana School for the Visually Impaired campus on Government Street in Baton Rouge. I worked there for 9 years. Now it is becoming a Family and Youth Center and the school has moved to the campus of the Louisiana School for the Deaf.  The lending library is still there so I try to take as many photos as I can for former students who were there when I was. We have a group on Facebook and they help us reminisce

Listening to Astronomy

From Fred's Head Blog at APH:
"Astronomy started out as a purely visual science, but with today’s electronics and techniques, you can also hear astronomy. It used to be that you to take classes, or else had to be in the right place at the right time to hear a lecture on astronomy. But, thanks to the Internet, there are many resources for hearing astronomy online.

Of course, you can hear astronomy information right here on this website, via the 90-second EarthSky interviews. You can also hear 22 minutes of science and music each week from EarthSky on the EarthSky 22 podcast."

Gather ye your plastic grocery bags!
Dear Friends,
You know those 137 plastic grocery bags you've got balled up inside each other in a cupboard somewhere? We want them! The Scotlandville Mobile Pantry can use them to bring fresh fruit and produce to residents in the largest food desert in Baton Rouge.

So gather up your bags and bring them either to the next Mobile Pantry event this Saturday (details below) or to the next TBR lunch on September 25th.

Three announcements ...

First, the next Together Baton Rouge lunch of faith and community leaders is on Tuesday, September 25th, 12pm, at First United Methodist Church, 930 North Blvd. If you are planning to attend and have not yet confirmed, please RSVP by this Thursday by clicking the image below or by visiting tbrlunch.eventbrite.com(We'll collect the plastic grocery bags at the beginning of the lunch.)

Second, the next Scotlandville Mobile Pantry, a project of Together Baton Rouge and the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, will be this Saturday, September 22nd, at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 1622 77th Avenue. Over the first few Mobile Pantries, we've delivered 117,800 pounds of fresh fruit and produce to 3,063 families with 10,154 people!

If you want to volunteer at the Mobile Pantry this Saturday, please email Edgar Cage
at edgarcage@att.net. Please plan to arrive at 8:15am. Food distribution runs from 9:30am until about 11:30am or while supplies last. You can bring plastic grocery bags to the Pantry.
Finally, the American Cancer Society Cancer Prevention study, postponed due to Hurricane Isaac, has been rescheduled for October 23rd - 27th. The schedule of dates and locations is at the end of this email. Once the website is live to reschedule appointments, we'll send that out so everyone can register.

We look forward to the fellowship!

Faithfully,

Together Baton Rouge
