We're taking some big steps forward in the effort to reduce gun violence.

Late last week, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid introduced a bill to institute universal background checks on gun sales, strengthen gun trafficking laws, and make our schools safer.

This is our chance to band together and push forward on legislation that will make a difference. Join the team that will fight until it's the law.

Right now, while Congress is on recess, opponents of this common-sense legislation -- like the powerful gun lobby -- are hoping to ramp up their fight, and scare reasonable members of Congress into voting against this reform.

That's why we can't sit back.

Volunteers around the country are holding events as part of a national Day of Action to make sure Congress knows that we're ready to take real, meaningful action to reduce gun violence. More than 150,000 OFA supporters have already signed up to take action on this issue -- and more folks are getting involved every day.

National Federation of the Blind Launches Vehicle Donation Program

Baltimore, Maryland (March 19, 2013): The National Federation of the Blind (NFB), the oldest and largest organization of blind people in the United States, today announced that it has partnered with Vehicles for Charity to launch a new vehicle donation program. The NFB's vehicle donation program accepts almost any vehicle, including cars, trucks, boats, motorcycles and recreational vehicles. All donations may be eligible for a tax donation on your federal income tax return.

Dr. Marc Maurer, president of the National Federation of the Blind, said: "We are pleased to announce this new vehicle donation program. By donating your vehicle to the National Federation of the Blind, you are helping to improve the lives of blind people across the country. Your donation will go toward our work to increase the number of blind children learning Braille, to advocate for blind and other disabled persons to receive a fair working wage, and to ensure a brighter future for all blind Americans."

Retinoblastoma is cancer of the eye that manifests in infants and toddlers. It leads to necessary enucleation or removal of the eye(s). Sometimes it returns once the victim is an adult as in musician Jeff Healy. Hopefully, with the discovery below and continued studies there will be a way to save the vision and more importantly the lives of these young people. ~K
